    Retention Question

I have a directory that I am backing up that only needs the last 5 days’ worth of files kept on-line. The files that are in the directory are different names each day and stay in there for 7 days and then are purged out by the parent program that creates them. What I would like to do is create a retention policy that keeps the last five days’ worth and then the last 3 weekend copies. I created a retention policy but, it does not seem to work here is what I have created:
    Time-Based on-line retention
    Keep most recent generations (5)
Keep one generation every 5 day(s) for last 1 week
Keeps one generation every week on or before Sunday at 12:00:00 AM

** When I ran this it did nothing**
So not sure what else I should try – any suggestions?

Are you doing an archive package in the schedule to keep the weekend copies?

Make a backup set with just that one directory in it. Also make a retention policy specifically for that backup set. Under the retention policy check the first check box "Deletion of files removed from the source". On the next screen turn on the checkbox "If files removed from the source" and then select After 21 days (3 weeks). Your time based retention will take care of the 5 daily's and 3 weekly and then data will be removed from online storage after 21 days - which should be outside your retention policy.

Sorry that it took so long to reply back on this -- but, set this up and it appears to work.
    Thanks for your help
